Part 1: Hair Habits That Cause Damage

1.) Choosing the wrong hair care products. Picking up the wrong hair product (shampoo, conditioner etc.) from the drugstore aisle is a surefire way of posing serious damage to your hair. Read the label and make sure that the shampoo you’re going to purchase does not contain harmful sulfates (which is basically as strong as commercial grade detergents) to avoid drying out the hair.

2.) Overshampooing. Sure, you want to clean your scalp and hair to bits but that doesn’t mean you have to shampoo your hair twice during shower time.

3.) Forgetting the conditioner. For most people, applying conditioner is an ardous task and end up skipping this very important step in their hair care routine. It’s significant in hydrating the strands keeping it healthy and nourished. If you think conditioners weigh your hair down, select a light formula. Also, don’t rely on shampoos that claim they have conditioners in it.

4.) Silk versus cotton pillowcases. Did you know that cotton pillowcases can make your hair frizzy in the morning? This is because cotton can cause friction on each hair strand. Switch to silk pillowcases which proves to be very gentle on the hair. It’s the secret to the ultimate bed head hair!

5.) Using heat styling tools like curling and flat irons while the hair is still wet. It is advisable to style hair while the hair is just a touch damp for it to still bend according to the style of your choice. using heat styling tools while the hair is outright wet will result to hair breakage.

Your Guide To Getting The Perfect Blowout

Today’s modern women are busy – that’s fact. However, being busy does not mean that you’re doomed to wearing mediocre hairstyle everyday. The solution? Alan Coban devised a few simple ways to style your hair using the good ol’ blow dryer whenever you’re pressed with time.

1. Start by blotting your hair with a t-shirt to avoid frizziness.

2. Apply a hair serum and let your hair air-dry for about 10 minutes. The hair serum will protect your hair from potential thermal heat damage. While letting the hair dry, you can multitask by doing your makeup or picking out clothes to wear.

3. Prepare to work on your blowout. Replace your old boar round brush in favor of a round brush made with Tourmaline or ceramic bristles. They easily conduct heat and significantly decrease your blowout time into half.

Do Blondes Have More Fun?

Seriously, we hardly recognized who this blonde bombshell was…

We’re so used to seeing Kylie Jenner wearing her brunette tousled hair that we actually did not see this coming. The blue dip dye hair she pulled off last year is already a bold statement coming from the 17-year olf reality star but going full blonde with chunky fringe is definitely an entirely new story.

Turns out, Kylie’s blonde hair is just a wig. Many beauty insideres think that she should take the plunge and try to go to the lighter side this year. Do you think blonde suits her well?

Kitchen Products to Treat and Condition Hair

Our hair goes through tons of stress with all the hair products, thermal styling tools and environmental hassles it embraces every single day which is why hair conditioning and treatment has always been on top of our beauty to-do list. Spending boatloads of money from constant visits to your salon is not exactly practical that’s why Palisades Beauty is here to give you tips in getting that salon-like hair quality by simply using fruits, condiments and other household products you can easily grab from the kitchen. Maintaining and improving your hair’s health has never been this easy and cost-effective!

Mayonnaise: One of the most effective traditional treatments for hair is being spread over your favorite sandwiches every morning! Mayonnaise is rich in conditioning properties because of its oil and egg content. It has been known to restore moisture and keep hair hydrated.  Slather a generous amount of mayonnaise into the hair and scalp area and let it set for 30 minutes. Make sure you also use a comb to evenly distribute the mayonnaise on each strand. Rinse with lukewarm water and shampoo hair thoroughly.  You’ll be happy to notice the difference after drying hair. Your hair will have noticeable volume and smoothness.

Apple Cider Vinegar: Shampoos, conditioners, hair treatments and styling products leave some nasty residues and chemical build up which leads to making her look dull and lifeless. Dilute 1/3 cup of apple cider vinegar with 1 liter of water. Shampoo hair and rinse it the way you normally would then pour on the solution and let it sit for 5 minutes. Apple cider vinegar is rich in vitamins, enzymes and amino acids that can kill dandruff causing bacteria on the scalp. Consequently, it also closes cuticle scales which protect the surface exterior of the hair shaft. Rinsing hair with apple cider vinegar and water mixture at least once a week will result into smoother hair surface leaving hair shinier and more manageable than ever before.

Avocado: Combining avocado with other kitchen ingredients will intensify its hydration properties that can condition hair. All you need to do is make an avocado hair mask by mashing one avocado with one teaspoon of lemon juice and a pinch of salt. Mix all ingredients until they form a thick consistency and simply slather into the hair and scalp. Leave the hair mask for 30 minutes before shampooing and rinsing hair. This will maintain the natural pH level of hair and improve the condition of dry hair.

Olive Oil: For thousands of years, olive oil has not only been used for culinary purposes, but for enhancing beauty as well. It is infused with numerous vitamins and antioxidants that can improve the overall health of skin and hair. We love using olive oil to lock in the hair’s natural moisture and treat split ends. Just apply olive oil into hair and scalp and cover it with a shower cap. Let it sit for 30 minutes before shampooing and rinsing hair as usual. Repeat this treatment at least once a week to completely treat split ends while making hair smooth and lustrous at the same time.
